The American building transportation industry is comprised of six major international companies - Otis Elevator Company, Schindler Elevator Corporation, KONE, Inc., Fujitec America, Inc., ThyssenKrupp Elevator Americas and Mitsubishi Electric US, Inc. and several North American-based companies, which manufacture and install elevators, escalators and other building transportation equipment.
Most of these companies also provide maintenance and repair services through contracts with building owners and managers. Many other companies focus only on the maintenance and repair of building transportation equipment. In addition a number of both International and North American part suppliers support the manufacture, repair and maintenance of building transportation. The elevator industry consists of both union and non-union companies and has a presence in every state across the country.
NEII®'s membership includes the six international companies, North American manufacturers, maintenance and repair-only shops, part suppliers and individuals. Our members represent approximately 75 percent of the total hours worked by the industry.
NEII members directly employ more than 25,000 people in the U.S. and indirectly support hundreds of thousands of American jobs in affiliate industries such as parts supply, inspection and certification, architecture, building construction, electrical, shipping and freight.
